JulieAnn McKellogg is a San Francisco-based, award-winning journalist and media entrepreneur connecting communities through texting. She is currently the head of growth at Subtext, a texting platform that allows users to manage and monetize communications with their subscribers. Prior to joining Advance, she co-founded Pactio, a Stanford-incubated startup and the first on-demand, reader-driven marketplace for journalism. She was a 2018 JSK Fellow at Stanford University, where she researched how transient communities discover and engage with local news. Before moving to the Bay Area, JulieAnn was a senior editor for McClatchy’s award-winning Video Lab in Washington, D.C. At The Washington Post, JulieAnn supported the launch of a social media-based online show, and developed a video brand built around the newspaper’s storied Reliable Source column. While there, she was a member of a two-time Edward R. Murrow award-winning team and she won an Emmy for her interactive video series on a concierge of a five-star D.C. hotel. McKellogg began her career as a Charles Kuralt Fellow in International Broadcasting at Voice of America. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she serves on the alumni board for the School of Media and Journalism.
