News and social media organizations share a collective responsibility to increase representation. What they cover, and what they choose to write about influences the larger society. Instead of being a mirror to society’s biases, everyone needs to do better. We propose a panel with the Wikimedia Foundation’s gender equity spokesperson, a NYT reporter who has worked on the Overlooked project (writing obituaries for overlooked notable people throughout history), a reporter from Quartz who has worked on improving representation or an academic.
