Preventing misinformation during times of crisis: Lessons learned from knowledge sharing during the COVID-19 pandemic

This panel aims for a conversation between social media platforms and news organizations to discuss what worked in the context of COVID-19 news sharing, lessons learned and opportunities to recalibrate.

This panel aims for a conversation between social media platforms and news organizations to discuss what worked in the context of COVID-19 news sharing, lessons learned and opportunities to recalibrate. The discussion will explore how different players worked to prevent misinformation around the pandemic highlighting: Wikipedia’s collaborative content creation and moderation model, and new approaches undertaken by journalism organizations and social media companies to elevate accurate information. In addition to a Wikipedia representative, we’ll Invite 1-2 journalists to join the panel to share their approach to combating misinformation about the virus, and how they covered COVID-19. Other panelists will include a representative from a social media platform company.
