There’s a silver lining in the shift to virtual events: What newsrooms have learned from the rapid transition to all things online

How newsrooms can embrace virtual events as an opportunity to serve and listen to loyal and new audiences.

Virtual events may not be a new feature for newsrooms, but the pandemic pushed us into a more rapid transition to online events than ever anticipated. Along with making it impossible to hold in-person events, the pandemic has dramatically changed audiences’ needs. This gave us a unique opening to not only better serve our loyal audiences but also to engage with those who might not normally attend for reasons such as not having the time or living too far away. It is also an opportunity for newsrooms to give our audiences a voice in our products, allowing others to learn and relate by seeing the crisis through their eyes. As the pandemic continues, we’ll examine how newsrooms can strengthen their virtual event strategy.

In this session, you will learn: (1) How to increase engagement and grow your audience through the greater shift to virtual events. (2) How listening to your audience can seed new editorial ideas by giving them a voice. (3) How to extract revenue from virtual events.
