Overexposed: Social Media & Mental Health

How to survive being an audience professional in a sea of sometimes disturbing waters.

While social media is a key part of a journalist’s tool kit for discovery & storytelling, it can also be a key part of their daily stress. Reporters, anchors, writers, digital producers and the like may be exposed daily to trolls and bad actors providing threatening and harmful dialogue, sharing graphic imagery and other terrible things. All of this takes a severe toll on a journalist’s mental health. This panel aims to bring together journalists in different roles across the newsroom to discuss their experiences as well as solutions that session attendees can take back and implement in their workplace.
