Research, Media and Citations: Wikipedia’s Journalism Essentials

Discuss tools to help journalists in their mission to hold power to account by serving as a resource for academic research, historical news coverage, and distribution, as well as providing free license images for news stories.

Wikipedia is deeply invested in the health of a free press, and the integrity of academic research. It has and can help journalists in their mission to hold power to account by serving as a resource for academic research, historical news coverage, and distribution, as well as providing free license images for news stories. After all, Wikipedia is a tertiary source, and relies on factual, trusted citations from news organizations for everything from breaking news to articles about history. There needs to be trust and fidelity in the knowledge ecosystem as a whole.

We propose a panel with Wikipedia’s Chief Product Officer, an influential investigative journalist as well as someone from the business side of a news organization.
